MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WTVF) — An investigation has gotten underway after a Confederate statue in Murfreesboro was vandalized.

The incident was reported early Wednesday morning at the statue located on the square, next to the old courthouse. Murfreesboro police confirmed someone threw white paint on the statue and ran from the area. Police said witnesses described the suspect as a white male who was wearing a smock. The county is going to have to sandblast the statue to remove the paint.
