Wait….Something is missing in the article
Here the real story before you read one sided news It important to know truth
What has gone unmentioned
FIREHOUSE HAS REMAINED TRUE TO THEIR ROOTS
Ol Dixie waves high above a firehouse in Notth Carolina
The picture does not even shows the firehouse or flag on the flagpole
The flag at the firehouse is a hybrid North Carolina confederate flag: closest to the flag poll is a yellow NC, and the dates the state was founded; to the left are Virginia battle flag that cover two thirds of the flag.
KEEP IT FLYING HIGH FIREHOUSE REMAINED TRUE TO SOUTHERN ROOTS
According to this they blame tragic events Charlottesville Virginia in August 2017
Now has forced the Commissioners in Montgomery County say they will restrict funding to a rural volunteer fire department that for months has refused to take down the Confederate flag that waves over it.
The county will also replace the Uwharrie name on the trucks with new graphics “in support of the county’s stance on equal rights and freedom of speech.”” to threats of limiting fund to only gas and maintenance on two vehicles
obviously County does not believe in what manure they spew
WHAT IS NOT MENTIONED
In truth this has been a fight since June 2016 primary, local election officials asked to take down the flag for the election the coming fall 2016. They refused. So the county pursued a second polling location at the Uwharrie Community Building. That didn’t work out either.
The local board of elections voted unanimously to move the polling site to the Eldorado Precinct with no southern symbol overhead. Crazy that out of about 2,800 different polling locations and they have a problem with this firehouse
Also it shameful Commission ONLY promises funding for 2 vehicles
What goes unspoken
The firehouse has four trucks
One Engine is so big that the three door firehouse needed an addition.
According to a government employee, the volunteer organization took out a loan to pay for that construction, and asked Montgomery County to help pay back the debt.
To my understanding
No official action has yet been taken still to this day
ALL THIS FOR OVER A YEAR COUNTY HAS PUSHED BUT FIREHOUSE HAS REMAINED TRUE TO THEIR ROOTS
How is this even lawful
Where’s the Southern equal rights and freedom of speech
The fire station and the land it’s on is private property so since they couldn’t force them to remove the flag
The County now acts like children and withheld their funding.
So when someone’s house or business burns down the victims will know exactly who to sue for withholding funding to the fire department which could have, hopefully, prevented it.
Clearly selective enforcement of equal rights and freedom of speech will only end up getting someone killed in a fire.
Sad Shameful State of the Nation indeed
