On Sunday, the Virginia Flaggers traveled to Danville, Virginia to attend a rally on the grounds of the last Capitol of the Confederacy, at the Sutherlin Mansion

?
The crowd at the event numbered over 300 and we enjoyed the opportunity to gather with so many fine folks who were united in their determination to push back against those who are, once again, pressuring the Danville City Council to remove the Confederate Flag that flies at a memorial on the grounds, in honor and memory of Danville’s Confederate veterans.

This event featured a number of excellent and inspiring speakers, including Congressman Virgil H. Goode, author and historian Colonel Greg Eanes (USAF-Ret.), and civil rights attorney and activist Fred D. Taylor.

It was a beautiful day, and those in attendance sent a clear signal to the Danville City Council that there are many, many citizens who will not sit by quietly and allow our heritage and history to be erased, nor allow our Confederate ancestors to be dishonored in a vain attempt to appease the handful of haters who thrive on causing strife and division, and are once again calling for the flag’s removal.

Many thanks to the Pittsylvania Vindicators Camp #828 and the ladies of the Anne Eliza Johns Chapter 164, UDC, for sponsoring the very successful event!

THIS THURSDAY NIGHT, August 6th, City Council will vote on an ordinance that would ban the flying of any flag on City property other than the US Flag, State Flag, City Flag, or POW/MIA flag.  This ordinance is specifically designed to force the removal of the Third National Flag from the memorial, and is reported to have the support of the majority of council members.  PLEASE take a moment and contact City Council BEFORE THURSDAY evening and ask them to VOTE AGAINST this prejudicial and discriminatory ordinance.  Contact information here:  http://www.danville-va.gov/386/Members-of-the-Council

****BREAKING NEWS!   DANVILLE MEMORIAL HIGHWAY BATTLE FLAG #1 RAISING SCHEDULED!****

Almost as soon as the news broke that City Council had scheduled a vote on the ordinance to remove the flag from the memorial, the Va Flaggers were contacted by Danville residents eager to offer their land for roadside battle flag memorials.  We are thrilled to announce that we have several projects underway in Danville, and will be raising the FIRST Danville Memorial Highway Battle Flag THIS THURSDAY, just prior to the City Council meeting!  The flag will be installed on private property, leased by the Virginia Flaggers, on Highway 58, in a very central and highly visible location.

We invite everyone to make plans to be in Danville Thursday, August 6th at 5:00 p.m for the flag raising ceremony, and then make our way as a group to the City Council meeting to PACK THE COURTROOM and let our voices, and that of our Confederate ancestors, be heard!

More details to follow on Wednesday evening.

PLEASE forward this email, contact City Council, and make plans to invite friends and family and be in Danville Thursday evening!
