Subject: Statement to the Historically Stupid
Those of you who are so ignorant of our history, due to having been indoctrinated in the Marxist school system, that you still believe the War of Northern Aggression was about slavery need to digest the following information. On July 22, 1861, the U.S. Congress passed a joint resolution stating the purpose of the war:
“Resolved…That this war is not being prosecuted on our part in any spirit of oppression, not for any purpose of conquest or subjugation, nor purpose of overthrowing or interfering with the rights or established institutions of those states, but to defend and maintain the supremacy of the Constitution and all laws made in pursuance thereof and to preserve the Union, with all the dignity, equality and rights of the several States unimpaired; and that as soon as these objects are accomplished the war ought to cease.”
This is proof that the war was NOT fought over slavery. The North did, however, conquer and subjugate the South, and the war they initiated and waged against the South was both unconstitutional and treasonous. It was fought to force the legally seceded South back into the union for the purpose of continuing the collection of excessive tariffs, which economically damaged the South, but was of economical benefit to the northern industrialists.
The next lesson concerns the Corwin Amendment. Never heard of it? Of course not. It is another piece of history that renders the tired old saying of “the South fought to keep and perpetuate slavery” completely useless.
The Corwin Amendment, proposed by Congressman Thomas Corwin of Ohio, passed by Congress 2 March 1861, and endorsed by Abraham Lincoln. That amendment read: “No amendment shall be made to the Constitution which will authorize or give to Congress the power to abolish or interfere, within any State, with the domestic institutions thereof, including that of persons held to labor or service by the laws of said State.”
If the seceded States had wished to perpetuate slavery, they had only to re-join the Union and ratify that amendment. They did not because they seceded to escape an overweening, all-intrusive big government, the same reason that thirteen States seceded from Britain in 1776, Mexico from Spain in 1818, and Texas from
Mexico in 1836.
Now, on to the Confederate Battle Flag, which you Marxists, socialists, progressives, Yankees, scalawags, and news media love to hate. Your favorite tune is, “It’s a flag of racism and slavery”. Really? Let’s do some comparison between the U.S. flag and the Confederate Battle Flag. How many Confederate flags flew over slave ships? None. Zero. How many U.S. flags flew over slave ships? Ever how many slave ships there were, because they were built in New England and made their slave runs from there, trading rum for already captured slaves in Africa. (Yankees sold the slaves to both Northerners and Southerners, but the full blame of slavery is ALWAYS laid at the feet of the South.) How many years was slavery alive under the U.S. flag? Over 80. How many under the Confederate flag? Four. Hmmm. 80 vs 4, yet the Confederate flag is called the flag of slavery and racism. It just doesn’t add up to anyone with a brain in their head. Under the U.S. flag, Southerners were raped, murdered, homes, barns, and crops burned, animals killed and stolen. Civilians; old men, women, children, black and white, were slaughtered under that flag. No genocide was perpetrated under the Confederate flag. It seems the butchering of Southerners was a practice session for what was to happen to the American Indians later.
Also, under the U.S. flag, during WWII, Japanese Americans were forced into internment camps (prison camps) and lost their homes and businesses during that time. How benevolent and wonderful the U.S. government is.
You people have been brainwashed with rewritten history for 150 years. You spew out the same, lame, tired old Yankee slogans over and over again, but don’t have any fact to back it up. Okay, the KKK has been guilty of hijacking the Confederate Battle Flag, but their flag of choice for many years has always been the U.S. flag. They also use the Christian flag. Has anyone heard of any movement to ban those flags? (Crickets chirping)
Reconstruction, actually, Redestruction, was all about crushing the spirit, culture, and heritage of Southerners, and creating racial strife between the races. You say the war is over. Get over it. The military aspect of it is over, yes. But the political and social aspects have never ended. Cultural genocide continues today, because this government can’t stand to have a people who will be independent, self sufficient, and desire to live by the Constitution as our Founders did. THAT is what the Confederate flag represents; that independent, self sufficient spirit that wants to be left alone. You people need to get a clue and understand that you have been fed a bunch of BS for 150 years. The truth is readily available, but you won’t get it in the socialist schools and universities, or on the History Channel. The war was largely about the unfair tariffs imposed on the South. 85% of the federal revenues came from the South, but it only had 1/3 of the population. Lincoln stated in his first inaugural address that he would continue the collection of tariffs, by force if necessary. That’s why he pinned the union back together with a bayonet, for money. Mark Twain said that it is easier to fool people than it is to convince them they have been fooled. You have been fooled.
