As the new year approaches, I want to encourage my fellow Confederates to make a resolution. Now generally speaking I don’t make "New Year’s Resolutions", but this year I’m making an exception.
Let us resolve to wear some item of clothing or accessory that shows our heritage to the world, every day, if possible. There are many different items available through the SCV website, and I’m sure that the UDC, MOS&B have similar items as well, not to mention the many other pro-South merchants out there. There are items to fit every budget and line of work, from ball caps to watches and pins.
I was born and raised in Chicago, and have lived here for most of my 34 years. I recently began wearing my SCV membership rosette on my lapel, and to date, I have yet to have a confrontation over it, the Battle flag or Confederate heritage in general. Instead, I’ve found people are curious about it, and when they ask, I have the perfect opportunity to tell them about the SCV, and why I’m a member. If a simple preacher from Chicago can do this kind of thing up North, surely my brethren in the South can do the same. Most folks up here don’t hate the South, they just don’t know much about the CSA, and what it stood for. It’s up to us to educate them.
Happy New Year from Upper Dixie, and may God bless you and yours in 2005!
