Subject: Va Flaggers: Lexington Flags Update

On December 26th, we shared our plans for TWO roadside flag sites in Lexington, Va. – A 50’ pole with a 10’ x 15’ Battle Flag on property just outside of the town of Lexington, and another on I-81.  We asked for help in upgrading to an 80’ pole for the I-81 site.  Two of our Flaggers pledged matches of $1,000 each for any contributions made by the end of the year, to be able to purchase a new 80’ pole.  Within just a few days of that announcement, we had received the required $2,000 and matching funds and were able to order the 80’ Pole, thanks to the generosity of Confederate supporters across the US and beyond!  We were absolutely blown away by the tremendous support received!

We ordered the pole on January 5th, and on January 6th, we loaded up a 50’ pole from our reclaimed inventory, delivered it to the Jackson Farm site, and then picked up the 80’ pole from the manufacturer to save delivery charges, and delivered it to the I-81 site.

That left us just 10 days before the State Lee-Jackson Holiday to get a ton of work done, including digging holes, pouring concrete, and setting poles on two flag sites.  On Friday, we headed up and were able to get both holes dug and (ahead of schedule!) got the concrete poured at the I-81 site.

This turned out to be a blessing, as on Monday, wet weather set in and we were forced to hold off on further work.  The forecast for the week was gloomy and we were faced with the prospect that we might not complete the projects in time for the Lee-Jackson holiday.

Thankfully, there was a break in the weather Tuesday which gave us just enough time to get back out there and pour concrete at the Jackson Farm location and complete the welding of the 50’ pole to be installed there.

The bad weather returned Wednesday, and there is ice, snow and rain in Lexington.  We have a crane scheduled for Thursday to raise both poles, but there is a chance that the ground will be too wet/icy at the I-81 location to get the crane to the site.

We will, thanks to your support and generosity be raising at least ONE flag in Lexington on Friday.  We hope and pray that it will be two.  We are looking at a 1:00 pm flag raising on Friday.  If you are planning to meet at the Jackson Cemetery at 10:00 am Friday morning for flagging instructions, you will get more information then.  If you would like to attend the flag raising, but cannot make the 10:00 am meeting, please send us an email for more details.

These projects were funded with gifts from New York, Wisconsin, California, Texas, Florida, and just about every state in between, and ranged from $10 to $1,000.  We even had support from the United Kingdom!  We are deeply grateful for EACH AND EVERY one who made this possible and can’t wait to share photos and details of the flag raising(s) this weekend.  🙂

ON TO LEXINGTON!
