The North Carolina War Between the States Sesquicentennial effort was greatly inspired by, and is greatly indebted to, Dr. Clyde Wilson for his insightful research and prolific writing over many years; and Dr. Donald Livingston for his ground-breaking research and writings, and untiring and unselfish efforts to educate young men and women in the traditions, history, literature and culture of the American South.  Without these two great American scholars illuminating the paths to be followed, our efforts today in researching and understanding the past would be far, far short of ideal.
