The rights of states to secede from the "Union"
The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government – lest it come to dominate our lives and interests. – Patrick Henry
Tyranny is defined as that which is legal for the government but illegal for the citizenry.
– Thomas Jefferson
Veritas Vos Liberab
And we make heroes out of the Constitution wreckers and republic destroyers. Yes, we in the Southern Confederacy were "conquered" but it took four years and the loss or over three hundred thousand Federal troops, many of which were foreign born who were marshaled against us by "Honest Abe" Lincoln who used multiple constitutional overrides, and the breaking of international law to achieve his dreams of the federal monstrosity we toil under to this day.
(See the books "The Real Lincoln" and "Lincoln Unmasked" Thomas J. Lorenzo, Three Rivers Press N.Y.)
This does not count the estimated 60,000 plus southern civilians who died of starvation, deprivation, sickness, and the sword, or the thousands of Confederate prisoners who were starved, beaten and murdered in cold blood in northern prison camps. Where is the national monument to them? Where is the state/federal park in their honor, as the the monument and park dedicated to the Union troops who died at Andersonville? And this after repeated pleas by the Confederate government for prisoner exchange? (Grant himself denied the exchange that would have saved thousands of Federal prisoners that the South had no way of feeding or properly caring for. Our own troops in the field lived on near starvation rations for most of the war.)
Thousands live within walking distance of former federal pest holes that rivaled the concentration camps of Nazi Germany and are totally unaware of camps with names like "Hellvira" (Elvira Prison NY) where thousands of Confederate prisoners were beaten, starved, and frozen to death in the midst of plenty. Nothing much is left now except the thousands of unkempt and desecrated graves. And Southerners who didn’t forget.
It is said that Confederate gravestones at Arlington and other locations were given a pointed top to keep Yankees from sitting atop them. Thousands of Confederate dead were left to be ravaged by hogs and the beasts of the field after being piled in unmarked shallow graves. Children and often adults kicked the skulls around like footballs after the bodies washed out of their graves.
Today Confederate battle flags are snatched from gravesites, and our monuments to our fallen desecrated. The playing of "Dixie" is almost unheard of, but the mournful wail of Muslims being called to prayer wafts over our cities as if America were the middle east.
Compare this to the treatment of the Muslim terrorists who murder our innocent by the thousands today. Clean beds, nourishing theocraticly correct food, Korans, medicine, medical care, and last but not least, freedom to murder rape and pillage again. Now traitors in our midst blame the U.S. for such outrages and are paid millions to indroctonate our children. We can’t even call them "terrorists" for the love of the Almighty God! They are "insurgents" and we put a Muslim loving president in the Whitehouse??!!
"They died of Southern fever,
and Southern steel and shot."
I wish it was three million,
instead of what we got!"
From the poem
"I’m a good old Rebel!"
Yes. The rights of states to secede from the "Union" is a good idea whose time has come again. The South was right, and the people know it.
