Ulysses S. Grant: "If I thought this war was to abolish slavery, I would resign my commission, and offer my sword to the other side."
 
I would appreciate someone posting proof that he actually said this.  If it’s true, we should make it known.  If it isn’t, then we should stop passing it around, for doing so can only work against us.
