Letter: Thanks for proper flag on grave
I want to thank whoever put the Confederate Flag on Wm. G. Shook’s grave in the Pioneer Home Cemetery for Memorial Day. With the origin of Memorial Day being a remembrance of those who died in the Civil War, it is fitting to mark the graves of those who fought for the Confederacy with a Confederate flag.
Since my Great-Great Uncle Billy did fight for the South in the Civil War, I used to put a Confederate flag on his grave until I started having trouble finding places that sold them.
I am assuming that who ever did the decorating must have found William Shook’s Confederate service records. This may give me the incentive to try and find the records for our family.
My dad and I do appreciate your taking the time to honor William Shook and the other two Confederate soldiers with flags on Memorial Day.
