The Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans will hold a 192nd birthday celebration Sunday for Forrest at the park which had been named for him before a dispute between the city and the veterans group.

The group’s event is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the park at Union and Manassas in the medical center. The city has renamed the site Health Sciences Park, but a lawsuit is pending over the name change. The controversy will rise again during the birthday celebration, at which the veterans group’s national commander, Kelly Barrow of Griffin, Ga., will speak about “Saving History for the Future.”

The group’s spokesman, Lee Millar, said the celebration, which is free and open to the public, will include a flag parade, a wreath-laying and Civil War-era music by the 52nd Regimental String Band.
