SCV Appealing Case To Full Federal Appeals Court

The Sons of Confederate Veterans will appeal the decision made in federal district court of appeals that ruled against its lawsuit brought against the city of Lexington in an effort to get the city’s flags and banners ordinance declared unconstitutional.
A stay of mandate was filed Friday in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in Richmond to petition to have the case heard by the full panel of judges that sit on the court. A panel of three judges that heard the case in May issued a ruling in favor of the city in early July.
Brandon Dorsey, camp commander of the Stonewall Brigade of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, said his organization’s objective remains to expose the motivation behind the enactment of the ordinance. “We’d like to make sure what people were thinking is open and apparent,” he said.
