Shame on The Commercial Appeal for not checking the Jan. 9 article about the Forrest Park sign.
If some Memphis soldiers came back from the Middle East wars and their homes and properties were put up for sale or auction because they were unable to pay the taxies levied on them during the time they spent on the battlefront, everyone in Memphis would rally to their aid.
This is one of the major reasons that Nathan Bedford Forrest took over the KKK.
I happen to know something about this. My great-grandfather, H. Fredrick Heidelburg, fought with Co. I, 15th Tennessee Infantry during the war between the states.
Mayor A C Wharton, since you represent Memphis, stand up for the truth. Have the "Forrest Park" sign up back where it belongs, in its original place.
