Ross, I wholeheartedly agree that we are miles apart in our views. I believe that as an educated person if you had access to a small part of the personal library and reference books on the subject that I own we would not be "miles apart".
"Views" and "opinions" are held by all, educated or ignorant, but facts are facts and can be agreed upon by reasonable people.
I would be pleased to make my library available to you. Should you like I will make a list of books and authors and send you any that you would like at my expense.
Your home area code indicates that you are a snowbird. If you don’t know anyone who has a problem with Lincoln you either associate only with other snowbirds or with polite southerners who are accustomed to dealing with snowbirds. Most Southerners and polite people of every ilk detest arguments (lawyers excepted, but they aren’t polite).
I belong to the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Military Order of the Stars and Bars and the Sons of the American Revolution in the Florida Panhandle and happen not to know anyone who would agree with your opinion of Lincoln.
Please step out of your rarefied atmosphere and meet some wonderful, gracious, educated Southern gentlemen. I would be pleased to have you as a guest at a meeting of any of the above organizations and introduce you to some fine people.
Should you be further west we also have chapters in Tallahassee, Quincy, Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale, Palm Beach (my old home town) and all over Florida.
