As a proud member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans whose ancestors include a Confederate general and a private who fought in every major battle of the War Between the States, I detest the current Ku Klux Klan and their plan to rally here. They, along with "skinheads," desecrate our symbols and besmirch our name while spreading hate. The original Klan, which Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest headed but did not found, was disbanded by him after reasonable government had been re-established to disenfranchised Southerners who were unprotected victims of mobs, scalawags and carpetbaggers.
I hope the present so-called KKK will be seen for what it is and received with little fanfare, and not unjustly be connected to my ancestors’ struggle to form their own government.
