No respect shown for Confederate dead
On April 27 there was a Confederate memorial service in Forsyth Park. This letter is a message to the individuals who tried to disrupt our service and to the ones who sent them there.
Their juvenile behavior wasn’t about their civil rights. It was about their lack of respect for Confederate dead.
If they spent as much time and effort decreasing high crime rates, the high dropout rate in high school and the high teen-age pregnancy rates as they did disrespecting other people, they would make Savannah a better place to live.
All we want to do is honor our Confederate ancestors. They fought a war against an army that invaded a sovereign nation. They were defending their homeland.
The only thing these disrupters accomplished that Sunday was to give us somebody to laugh at. We will continue to honor our Confederate ancestors and there is nothing they can do about it.
