Confederate Monument
From: tcoul312@earthlink.net

Dear friends,

Thank you for contacting me and and my fellow commissioners and sharing your opinions on keeping the Confederate Soldier monument on the Pitt County Court House grounds.

As you know, Ozie Hall and Keith Cooper have created quite a flap about this. Given Keith Cooper’s historic agenda in Pitt county, this is not surprising. I did not know Ozie Hall before this. But apparently, he is trying to make a name for himself in the community. He has.

The good news is, I have not, with the exception of Rev. Hall had one person, black or white, personally tell me they want the monument to be removed. I have had no less than 7 blacks tell me, they just wish the Rev. Hall would direct his energies to the real problems facing the black community. I have had well over 100 persons call, email or write letters saying they want it to stay. All nine Commissioners have told me they do not want it to be removed. Jeff Savage

[past County Commissioner] on WOOW radio even commented to Ozie Hall "if he had to have a list of things that was a priority, the statue would not be on the list."

The bad news is that I do not think we have heard the last of this. The Rev. Hall wants to make this a racial issue, where none exists. He has threatened to sue the county. He has given the West Greenville Regional Resources committee a fit. His reputation is one be tenatious and argumentative.

Please keep vigilant. If you hear of anything at all, I would appreciate it if you contact me. I will do all I can to put this issue to rest once and for all.

Thank you again.

Best personal regards,

ThR: Coulson
