Confederate month did not celebrate slavery

5/9/2010

Ali Basty’s April 28 comment–that Confederate History Month is pure racism and most Virginians don’t support Gov. McDonnell in his choice to celebrate it– is absurd.

She is entitled to her opinion. But please do not speak for me or my family. We cannot change history and act like these soldiers did not exist.

We are not celebrating slavery. We are recognizing our ancestors as brave and honorable soldiers. This is about the many men who fought and died for the South.

We are not talking about right or wrong. Just as many have different opinions about Vietnam or the war in Iraq, we still support those troops. Let’s do the same for our Confederate soldiers.
