Columbia, SC (AP) — For the 10th year in a row, the South Carolina NAACP will hold its annual meeting outside the Palmetto State, continuing the boycott of the Palmetto state because of the Confederate flag at the Statehouse in Columbia.
President Lonnie Randolph said in a Thursday news conference that the NAACP’s 69th annual state convention will be in Charlotte, NC, next weekend.
The meeting marks a decade that the South Carolina NAACP has met outside the state to honor its own tourism boycott aimed at getting the Confederate flag removed from the State House grounds. The NAACP has called for a boycott since lawmakers voted in 2000 to take the Confederate flag from the State House dome and move it to a monument in front of the building.
The group plans workshops on health care and education and will hold a job fair.
