School Mascot

To whom it may concern,

I am offended by your school ‘Tate’s Creek’ blatant use of the imagry
and word "Commodores" as the school mascot. How dare you force this painful reminder of British subjucation and wanton imperalist nationalism on your poor students.

Have you no shame? Are you without an ounce of humanity? Don’t you know the very term "Commodores" harken back to the days of the African slave trade? Back to the time when the British ruled the high seas, that Americans were under the thumb of the Crown, and Taxation without Representation was the law of the land?

It was Commodore Peter Parker who escorted Lord Cornwallis into Sandy Hook in 1776. Does your school prefer to subliminally brainwash young minds into being Tories? It was Commodore Barclay who destroyed the USS Lawrence on Lake Erie. What kind of message are you sending to your students?

The very name Commodores is offensive. I demand you change it to prevent further psycological damage and detrimental development against your students. I am sending this to you first before I contact the school board for any further action is taken. This is very offensive and needs to be dealt with ASAP.

Thank you
Mr Bearden

Mr. Meaux,

Thank you for the prompt and courteous reply. While I will most certainly persue the issue in the direction you have pointed, among numerous other avenues, I will say that yes, being a Commodore is anti American and in fact – racist.

Certainly your history teachers will teach their students the facts I have laid out (and there are dozens more facts just like that!) If you feel protective of the Crown of England (Torie?), please research what the Commodores of WW1 and Nazi Germany were http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kommodore

The days of education are long gone Mr Meaux. No longer does the old saying "Sticks and Stones" apply. In today’s world it is all about feelings, and about emotion. Current events clearly show the utterance of a single word, or the depiction of a single image will get one fired, arrested, publicly humilated or possibly in some extreme cases, bodily harm.

I am NOT here to harm, hurt, fire, arrest or humiliate anyone. I am trying to prevent the continued psycological abuse of the student body from forced subjection to being a "Commodore"

Just as Carl Galmon alone decided that the George Washington Elementary School in New Orleans (yes the 1st President) was harmful to Black children and had it renamed, and just as your students have stood out in a recent media interview against Allen Central High School’s mascot, I to demand my feelings be made known.

NO longer in today’s society are communities safe when it comes to tradition and loyalty. No longer is our heritage safe. It now takes only 1 person to declare themselves OFFENDED, which I have already declared, and the help of willing media – which they always are – traditions and heritage are easily removed!

I am in talks with the media and am addressing a letter to the school board as we speak. While I am not sure how your school mascot should be addressed – is it "Long Live the King" or "Hail to the Fuerer", the hateful mascot of Tate’s Creek needs to be banished ASAP.

I propose the new mascot for Tate’s Creek should be a Viceroy Butterfly – it is a beautiful and proud creature, with a true diversity of colors, and is the state’s official butterfly!
