Columnist maligns Alabama’s Confederate holidays
Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley wants to cut costs, so here’s a start. "Alabama gives Martin Luther King Day, as it should. But Alabama brashly combines it with Robert E. Lee’s birthday, staining the vision of MLK’s dream of equality with a pandering longing for the Confederate States of America.
In its desperation not to offend any group, Alabama is offensive. Again. And taxpayers pay for it.
Alabama also celebrates Jefferson Davis’ birthday on March 8 and Confederate Memorial Day April 25. It’s lucky "We Hate Yankees Day" never caught on."
