Dear HK,

Thank you once again for standing tall for our shared heritage. Police Chief Gilmore has been exonerated by your kind aid and that of others. Let’s be thankful that your words were heard.

I have but one correction that I must offer your otherwise stellar (as usual) remarks. General Forrest did not, repeat, never headed the klan. When brought before the congressional committee on klan activity and as hard as they tried to cast blame upon this Confederate hero, even the US Congress could find no such damning evidence and finally had to admit that the stories of Forrest being a leader in the klan was a lie. They were not even able to prove that he was a member of the klan. General Forrest flatly denied that he was a member. He was instrumental in shutting down the original klan. The subsequent klan and the one we know of today was born as a reaction to immigration policy after the turn of the 20th century. The association of Forrest with the original klan, post War, was a measure used by our enemies to discredit Forrest and to keep him from leading an imagined  vigilante effort to restart the War. I thought you might like to know this.

Thank you again and I wish you all the best. I am,

Respectfully yours,
