Jewish Soldiers Blue & Gray

For those of you who are sick and tired of the one sided TV Civil War specials, relief is on the way.  The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival has already had its first showing of Jewish Soldiers Blue & Gray by Jonathan Gruber.  I saw the film and am happy to announce that it will be on PBS sometime this spring.

Mr. Gruber presents the service of Jewish soldiers on both sides of the conflict with honesty.  The film starts out with U.S. Grant’s General Order Number 11 and its effects on the Jewish population in the District of Tennessee.  While lincoln seems to get a free pass, Grant and many other prominent Unionists are depicted as bigots and war criminals.  I hope this is the start of a trend toward historically correct programs dealing with this American tragedy.  Enough of Ken Burns already.
