Hopkins University Heritage Violation
Chuck:
If I may, one minor correction on the title for Mr. Waldburg-Zeil’s fine letter, the Generals Lee and General Jackson Birthday Ceremony is definitely NOT "cancelled." We will not allow Hopkins to prevent us from holding this annual event to honor these two great American leaders. It will be held on January 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.
Only the post ceremony refreshments and social gathering has been cancelled. In addition, because of this unjust decision by Hopkins, no rest room facilities will be available.
The John Hopkins University has changed their story five times when speaking to different people: on the reason for this decision:
1. The SCV is a "Confederate" organization
2. Hopkins is conducting a review of all rentals and the Sons of Confederate
Veterans is not being singled out
3. The Lee/Jackson Ceremony is "offensive"
4. The Lee/Jackson Ceremony is too close to Martin Luther King Day
5. Hopkins does not want the Confederate Battleflag on its Campus
I wonder what excuses 6, 7, and 8 will be?
Also, we have a new contact in addition to President Brody, Dennis O’Shea, a Hopkins Public Affairs Officer. He provided reason # 5. He can be reached at:
