Ladies and Gentlemen:
Those of you who have connects with or are part of the SCV, please bring this matter to the attention of your individual camp and the leadership of the SCV (and the UDC). This is extremely important given the attack ongoing against Southern heritage in general and Confederate history and symbols in particular.
It is my opinion that this matter must be addressed quickly and strongly before it gets out of control and the backlash of actions taken in Europe give impetus to those in this country who are working to censor your symbols and history. While we cannot stop misuse of these symbols – and especially the Confederate battle flag – we can at least address the issue publicly and in such numbers as to put the lie to those who say that this is the reason that these symbols are being displayed in this country. There can be no doubt that the “race card” is toxic to just about any person or organization that is tagged with it.
I believe that this matter is very serious and will only become more so in the immediate future unless steps are taken by those who are in a position to do so.
