HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY (Bay News 9) — A massive Confederate flag was raised Tuesday morning next to Interstate-75 over U.S. 92.

The flag is 50-by-30-feet and was raised to commemorate the 200th birthday of the Confederacy’s only president, Jefferson Davis.

More than a dozen people attended, many wearing t-shirts proclaiming "It’s a southern thing."

The flag will be a centerpiece of a Civil War memorial park that will be dedicated in April.
