Sons of Confederate Veterans hoisted the confederate flag and marched to the monument to soldiers at the Alamance County Courthouse

Graham, NC– There has always been a debate on whether the confederate flag symbolizes hate or history.

On Saturday members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans hosted a ceremony designed to honor fallen soldiers and dispel myths about the Civil War.

The group hoisted the confederate flag and marched to the monument to soldiers at the Alamance County Courthouse all in observance of Confederate Memorial Day.

Members realize there is a debate about whether the rebel flag symbolizes hate or history. They say they are constantly fighting to shake off the negative image.

Members of the group blame white supremacist groups for connecting the rebel flag to racism.

They say they’re dedicated to educating people about the historical value of the confederate emblem.
