Dear SHNV Readers,
Saying that General Nathan B. Forrest started the KKK or was a member of the KKK is not supported by any objective historical evidence. He testified under oath before Congress that he did not start the KKK and that he was not a member of the KKK. Subsequent to this testimony he did ask the men to disband the KKK which, at least officially on the surface they did, by 1868. Millions of people held Forrest in mind with the highest level of respect.
The current KKK holds largely the same positions as did the yankee Nativist movement of the Deep North which was anti-Jew, anti-Roman Catholic and anti-non-white. Forrest did accept Christ as his Saviour sometime after the war was over.
