Flag removal shocking act

May 10, 2009

I read the article "Black official removes Confederate flags" and was shocked over the actions of Auburn City Councilman Dowdell. The flags in question were placed in the cemetery in Auburn to commemorate the service of our ancestors to a cause in which they believed and which is still celebrated annually on Confederate Memorial Day as a state holiday.

As the owner of a cemetery lot in Pine Hill, I object to anyone removing whatever I feel I have a perfect right to put on my lot to honor my dead, be it flowers, a plaque or a flag, as long as it is not against the cemetery’s code, which this is not.
