Your comments about the changing of the Ole Miss mascot is extremely misled. I don’t blame you. 145 years of myth, lies, and rhetoric would do that to anyone.
However, based on the FACTS of history, you are dead wrong. The only folks who would argue with me are those who don’t know the facts, and you obviously do not.
Lets review the myth, which your believe, and then the facts:
1) MYTH: The War for Southern Independence was fought because the South wanted to protect slavery.
FACT: The reason for the war is actually VERY easy to determine, but the government doesn’t want to do the obvious. You see, all you have to do is read the official Declaration of War. The US Declaration of War, unanimously passed by the US Congress, and signed by President Lincoln, says: "Resolved: . . . That this war is not being prosecuted upon our part in any spirit of oppression, nor for any purpose of conquest or subjugation, nor purpose of overthrowing or interfering with the rights or established institutions of those states (ie, slavery), but to defend and maintain the supremacy of the Constitution and all laws made in pursuance thereof and to preserve the Union, with all the dignity, equality and rights of the several states unimpaired; and that as soon as these objects are accomplished the war ought to cease."
That’s right, Mike. The US government declared that the war was not fought over slavery. Now the real irony in the declaration of war was that the yankees claimed to be attacking the South not "in a spirit of conquest or subjugation,…", but when a government uses FORCE to FORCE itself upon those who want independence, what else can you call it?????
Still don’t believe me? Here’s what Lincoln himself said in 1862:
"My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and it is not either to save or destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave, I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union."
The TRUTH is even MORE SHOCKING!!!!!!!! Not only was the war NOT fought over slavery, but the US government was willing to guarantee slavery FOREVER, AND LINCOLN AGREED!!!!
On March 2, 1861, the U.S. Senate passed a proposed Thirteenth Amendment to the US Constitution (which passed the House of Representatives on February 28) that would have prohibited the federal government from ever interfering with slavery in the Southern states. (See U.S. House of Representatives, 106th Congress, 2nd Session, The Constitution of the United States of America: Unratified Amendments, Document No. 106-214, presented by Congressman Henry Hyde (Washington, D.C. U.S. Government Printing Office, January 31, 2000). The proposed amendment read as follows:
IMPORTANT NOTE HERE, MIKE: THIS AMENDMENT WAS PASSED WITHOUT THE 7 STATES OF THE DEEP SOUTH IN CONGRESS. THAT’S RIGHT, THE NORTHERN STATES PASSED THIS!!!!!!!
ARTICLE THIRTEEN
"No amendment shall be made to the Constitution which will authorize or give to Congress the power to abolish or interfere, within any State, with the domestic institutions thereof, including that of persons held to labor or service by the laws of said State."
Please note, THIS GUARANTEES SLAVERY FOREVER!!!!!
Two days later, in his First Inaugural Address, Abraham Lincoln promised to support the amendment even though he believed that the Constitution already prohibited the federal government from interfering with Southern slavery. As he stated:
"I understand a proposed amendment to the Constitution . . . has passed Congress, to the effect that the Federal Government shall never interfere with the domestic institutions of the States, including that of persons held to service. To avoid misconstruction of what I have said, I depart from my purpose, not to speak of particular amendments, so far as to say that, holding such a provision to now be implied constitutional law, I have no objection to its being made express and irrevocable." (emphasis added).
This of course was consistent with one of the opening statements of the First Inaugural, where Lincoln quoted himself as saying: "I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the States where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so."
Finally, you may be SHOCKED to learn that the US govenrment OWNED SLAVES THE ENTIRE COURSE OF THE WAR, and used them for various construction projects in downtown Washington, DC.
YOU ARE WRONG. THE WAR WAS NOT FOUGHT OVER SLAVERY. THE SOUTH DID NOT FIGHT TO DEFEND SLAVERY, BUT TO DEFEND ITSELF FROM A TYRANT, LINCOLN, WHO SOUGHT TO CHANGE THE FORM OF GOVERNMENT ESTABLISHED BY THE FOUNDING FATHERS. OUR GOVERNMENT TODAY IS NOT THE SAME AS IS 1787; IT IS AN IMPOSTOR. AND FINALLY, SECESSION DOES NOT MEAN WAR; ONLY WHEN A TYRANT WHO DOES NOT AGREE WITH THE PRINCIPLES OF THE DECLARATION OF SECESSION (INDEPENDENCE) OF 1776 IS IN CONTROL OF THE GOVERNMENT.
2) MYTH: The South is better off today because we lost the war.
Well, let’s see how our Southern representatives vote compared to the rest of the nation to see what an independent Dixie would look like:
-Our representatives have voted to make abortion unconstitutional, but have lost. RESULT: 50 million unborn murdered.
-Our representatives voted for a Constitutional Amendment for a balanced budget, but lost. RESULT: Runaway inflation.
-Our representatives have voted again and again to protect the borders, stopping illegal immigration, but have lost. RESULT: 9-11; services unable to deal with Spanish speaking immigrants; higher crime rates from those same immigrants.
-Our representatives have voted time and again against increasing control on firearms, and have lost. RESULT: Crime rates continue to rise, our God-given freedoms continue to be stripped from us.
I could go on and on and on; but you are probably too brainwashed by your high school history book (published in the north) and the media (owned in the north) to listen.
Educate yourself.
Get off the stool of everlasting repentance.
Data from the FBI proves that racism is LOWER in the South today than anywhere in the country.
The South was right; the South remains right. Quit being ashamed of your history. You have nothing to be ashamed of. The horrible slave trade was run exclusively out of the north; the Confederate Constitution made the slave trade illegal.
When you decide you want to learn more of the truth, let me know.
