Supporters of the Elmwood Pinewood Cemetery say they are not done fighting for the right to fly the Confederate flag over the cemetery.
City Manager Pam Syfert had ordered the flag and the pole it was hanging on removed from the cemetery.
Flag supporter Mark Palmer spoke at Monday night’s city council meeting and delivered an ultimatum.
“The city has 30 days to either place the flag and the pole back at the cemetery or have city council members take a vote, so that the public will know where each member stands,” Palmer said.
Palmer went on to say, if the city doesn’t comply, his group will “remind voters of controversial votes”, hold protests and bring what he calls celebrities to Charlotte to help fight for the flag.
There was no immediate answer from the city to Palmer’s demands
