Montgomery, Ala. (WSFA) — The state holiday was Monday, but on Thursday Confederate President Jefferson Davis was remembered in downtown Montgomery.
The First White House of the Confederacy hosted a ceremony in honor of Davis’ 201st birthday.
Organizers say it’s important to remember our history, especially Alabama’s. "We’ve gone through so much here, so many struggles here in the South, " said Anne Tidmore with the First White House of the Confederacy.
"Montgomery is just the cradle of so much American history, we had the Civil Rights Movement and we had the Confederacy. We just need to remember it all, be proud of it and be thankful for it," said Tidmore.
Jefferson Davis served as the President of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War.
He was born June 3rd, 1808.
