Updated with Slides – Lord Christopher Monckton Speaking in St. Paul

It’s great to know of your existence and work. In today’s toxic intellectual climate it’s almost unbelievable that a scholar like you — a peer, no less — is lecturing on the fraud of global warming with free refence to the true Faith. But I fear you’ve fallen into a common trap in effectively equating Algore with "Southern" and "stupid" (or "evil") in your presentation. This is quite common with non-Southerners. It may get good laughs, but I’d like to point out if I may that it’s off-base and very wrong.

Algore may be Southern-born and -bred but he is no Southerner and doesn’t actually talk Southern. Indeed he is one of the most un-Southern and anti-Southern people ever to hit the big time. I’m not sure where you got the notion that he has a Southern accent. His speech sounds more like Ohio or Pennsylvania than Tennessee:

He does not use, for instance, the long-I sound you pillory — "Ah" for "I" etc. It’s simply not there. "I can’t do his dreadful accent", you say. Do you so blithely spit in the face of millions who do speak as you indicate? Apparently you’re not aware of it, but the fact is the South is historically the fertile ground for your kind of ideas, .i.e. politically incorrect truth. The North by contrast happens to be the world headquarters of political correctness.

It appears you’re speaking before something called the Minnesota Free Market Institute in this footage. I’m shocked to know such an anomalously-named thing exists, because the cold northlands of the world have historically and characteristically been the source of the world’s ugliest socio-political developments, not least communism (PC’s literal, direct, original source) and the geopolitical rape laughably misnamed the "American Civil War".* I have tallied the freedom organizations around the USA and found most headquartered in Dixie by a good margin. Is any of this a surprise to you? I assume you are creationist — and aware that the "Scopes Monkey Trial", in which evolutionism got its original black eye, took place in Tennessee — not Massachusetts or New York.

We who love the South and want to save it from the PC wrecking ball are forever insulted, ridiculed, disenfranchised, and in some cases shot and killed for standing up for ourselves. Or this is done to us strictly for fun and amusement without any imagined provocation. We don’t appreciate it. Are you by chance among those still laboring under the misapprehension that the South is or ever was all about racism, bigotry and slavery? This is one of the biggest of all big lies. I (and thousands of others worldwide who will read this message) will be happy to prove otherwise. By the way, when you put words in Algore’s mouth like "Ah jes’ done made it all up", you’re mocking idioms traditionally ascribed to illiterate Southern blacks, almost a criminal offense in today’s ameriKa when deliberate.

THE VISCOUNT REPLIES:

Dear Mr. Waller, – You make an entirely fair point. Actually I love the Southern accent, and recently had the privilege of speaking at a Tea Party in North Houston. So you can be sure that your point has been well taken at this end, and I shall amend future presentations accordingly. – Monckton of Brenchley
